Total membership on July 1, 2006 was 140. Under the chairmanship of Carolyn Wills, the club had a wide range of outstanding programs throughout the year that included sports, science, financial, political, military, law enforcement and business. Quarterly social activities were held with the Holiday Party at the home Carolyn and Steve Wills. Newcomers Reception hosted by Richard Blount at his office, Cannon Wright Blount, LLC. The fourth annual Bobby Dunavant Public Servant Awards luncheon was held on April 18, 2007 at the Peabody Hotel with 500-plus in attendance. Former Senator Howard Baker was the keynote speaker. Judge Larry Potter was honored as the elected official with David Barber from the Shelby County Division of Corrections as the non-elected honoree. All Georgia Avenue projects continued with 82 students receiving Angel Tree gifts. All third graders received a personal dictionary, with blind students receiving braille story books. Glenn Thurmond was named Teacher of the Year. RCME Foundation funded a grant for improvements to a small hospital on the island of Tulagi in the Solomon Islands and again provided a grant for Living Waters project in Honduras. A new alliance was formed with LeBonheur Children’s Hospital called Gift of Life. GOL provides corrective heart surgery for children from a regions that do not have access to needed cardiac medical care. Funds were donated for the first child due to arrive in Memphis in early fall 2007. $29,010 was raised for RCME Foundation. Carolyn Wills was named Rotarian of the Year. Eight Paul Harris Fellows were awarded. Membership on June 30, 2007 was 153.
