District Governor

George Rosentreter - Oxford, MS

Total membership on June 30, 1999 was 125. Membership drive was held November-January and resulted in the addition of 24 new members. RCME had the largest delegation at the District 6800 Conference with over 11 members attending, and the club was awarded the Presidential Citation. The Paul Ball Campaign was held again this year with cash gifts in excess of $23,000, resulting in the addition of 20 new Paul Harris Fellows. Application filed and currently pending for IRS approval of the RCME Foundation. Participation in the Memphis Literacy Council continued with the formation of a Book Bank and the launch of the “Books for Ghana” book drive for the district. RCME made possible the purchase of new computers for each classroom at Georgia Avenue with Internet access. RCME purchased the first 13 computer and won a matching grant for an additional 13 computers from RI district 6800. Robert Packwood was named Teacher of the year. RCME continues to sponsor the Craigmont High School Interact Club and awarded three scholarships totaling $2,000. Seven delegates were sent to the Youth Leadership Conference at Whispering Oaks Conference Center which was hosted by the club for the third year. Over 30 RCME members helped host five Australian GSE Team Members, and the club joined with the downtown club in hosting five Russian professionals for one week as they learned about government and civic activities. Charles Key was named Rotarian of the Year Jo Walt, founder of the Neighborhood School, was named Citizen of the year. The Holiday Gala was held at the home of Bill and Linda Hackmeyer and the New Members Reception was held at the Junior League House with attendance at both events in excess of 100. Membership on June 30, 2002 was 131.
