Total membership on June 30, 2002 was 131. Fall and spring Newcomers Receptions held with attendance at both averaging 110 members. RCME hosted the 2001 District 6800 Conference in Memphis at the Adam’s Mark Hotel. 123 Rotarians, spouses and guests attended. RCME was awarded the Presidential Citation. King Rogers headed the Paul Ball campaign that raised over $45,000 for the newly formed RCME Foundation. $19,000 in surplus operation funds was transferred to the Foundation, bringing total to $85,000 for first year of operation. Seven new PHF’s were named for a total of 72. First phase of the playground equipment for Georgia Avenue completed. New, successful vocational program featuring speaker from the cultural and business community started for fifth graders. Celestine French named Teacher of the year. Two Craigmont Interact seniors were each awarded $1,000 scholarships. Five delegates sent to the Youth Leadership Conference at Whispering Oaks Conference Center hosted by our club for the fourth year. Dale Bullen was named Rotarian of the Year. Continuing its political debate forum, RCME had Republican and Democratic representatives debate at a meeting prior to presidential election. Holiday Open House was held at the home of Syble and Harold Gwatney with 135 Rotarians and guests attending. Alliance for the Mentally Ill volunteer, Beverly Hoover, named Citizen of the year. Membership on June 30, 2001 was 130.
