1993-1994 Club History/Activities
Total membership on June 30, 1993 was 89. The Georgia Avenue project continued and grew with adopted classes, Junior Achievement programs, trips to D.C. and Chattanooga, the Let’s Get Busy Store, ballet instruction, essay contests, Saturday T-ball, the Teacher of the Year Award, and a vocational awareness day for students in member offices. Fellowship events included the golf tournament fund raiser, fireside chats, a holiday party at the Dixon Gallery of Arts and an evening at Theatre Memphis, The Interact Club continued to grow and in addition to its own projects, assisted the Club with the golf tournament, Saturday reading tutoring, a day working with the mentally disabled and providing holiday cheer to a St. Jude patient and family. Additionally, they participated in the Rotary Youth Conference and one member was the Club’s first foreign exchange student to Belgium. International activities included Group Study Exchange from Switzerland, support of foreign families at St. Jude Hospital, co-sponsoring of an Argentinian doctor at Campbell Clinic and participation in Operation Save a Life providing needed heart surgery for a seven year old Jamaican. The Rotarian of the Year was Jim Avery. Jack Quinlan was named a Paul Harris Fellow. Membership at June 30, 1994 was 100.
